Organic Aerosol data (ORCA-2020)
Activities:
- PM1 sampling by a High-Volume Sampler (TECORA eco-highvol equipped with digital PM1 sampling inlet, nominal flow 500 lpm) on pre-washed and pre-baked quartz-fiber filters (PALL, Ø= 18cm). Sampling time: 3-4 days per sample.
- Off-line filter based AMS characterization of water soluble non-refractory sulfate, nitrate, ammonium, chloride, and organic mass (NR-PM1).
- Off-line filter-based spectroscopic characterization of the water-soluble organic mass in term of chemical functional groups and specific markers by means of proton-Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectroscopy (H-NMR).
- Source apportionment of organic aerosol by means of multivariate statistical techniques (namely Positive Matrix Factorization, PMF, and other factor analysis methods) applied on both AMS and NMR spectral datasets.
Available data:
-NMR functional groups (Aromatics, anomeric/vynilic, H-C-O, H-C-C=, H-C)
-NMR tracers: Levoglucosan, Methane-sulphonic acid (MSA), Hydroxymethane-sulphonic acid (HMSA), Amines (mono-, di- and tri-methyl amines, etc.)
-HR-TOF-AMS (off-line): main species (Org, SO4, NO3, NH4, Chl), elemental ratios (OM:OC, O:C, H:C) & tracer fragments (m/z43, 44, 60 etc.)
-NMR & AMS OA source apportionment

HR-TOF-AMS offline NR-PM1 concentrations - GVB, Ny-Alesund - May2019-Jun2020. Mass concentrations of the main non-refractory PM1 species (sulfate, nitrate, ammonium, chloride and organics) as measured by HR-TOF-AMS on the water-extracts of the PM1 quartz-fiber filters collected by an Hi-Vol sampler (TECORA, equipped with Digitel PM1 sampling inlet) on the roof of Gruvebadet Laboratory at Ny-Alesund, Svalbard from May 2019 til June 2020. Concentrations of specific organic fragments (namely C2H3O and CO2 at m/z 43 and 44, respectively; C2H4O2 and C3H5O2 at m/z 60.02 and 73.03, respectively; all the concentrations data are expressed as 𝜇g m-3. The elemental ratios (i.e., OM:OC, H:C, O:C) measured by HR-AMS are adimensional

Work-sheets:
1) AMS_PMF-Contributions: reporting the contributions of the factors resulting from the Positive Matrix Factorization (PMF) of HR-TOF-AMS spectral dataset:
- contributions to the total WSOM, expressed in 𝜇g m-3 and 𝜇gC m-3
- contributions to the total OC, after multilinear regression, expressed in 𝜇gC m-3 & % (before and after splitting Marine OA in marine POA and SOA based on what reported in the paper)
2) AMS_PMF-Profiles:
- reporting the spectral profiles of the factors resulting from the Factor analyses (PMF) of HR-AMS dataset, expressed in 𝜇g m-3
- the original spectra (eliminating all the isotope ions and the inorganic fragments from the quantified ions) are subtracted by the blanks mean
3) AMS_PMF_Raw_input:
- reporting the input matrixes used for the Positive Matrix Factorization (PMF) factor analysis using ME algorithm
- are reported both the data matrix (named "Data") and the uncertainty matrix ("Err", necessary to run the PMF using the ME2 algorithm)
- Uncertainty/error matrix was prepared following the error propagation approach by Daellenbach et al., 2016.
